Egg Shells scares lizards?

Believe it or not, it works.

I personally hates lizards especially those at house lizards. I literally will jump and scream when I see one even if it's just as small as your little finger! Even for me to put up this photo, I am grinding my teeth and goosebumps all over are on the rise.

I finally found a solution and I want to share it with you. So far, I have tried it and it works. My mother-in-law was curious about it and she tried as well. And to her amusement, she told me that it worked and now there are few lizards, if not, none at all at the places she placed the EGG SHELL.

Basically, the reason is rather logical when you think of it. Snakes will eat eggs and small animals (i.e. lizards, rodents). So, when the lizards see a broken egg shell, they assume that there is snakes near by and for their own safety, they will keep clear (which is what we want!!)

Whenever you fried an egg, remember to keep the shell. here is what you can do:

1. Make sure you break the eggs well.
2. Once done, gentle wash the shell to remove the residue.
3. Place the shell at a corner where it's 'obvious' to the lizards view.

Check it out! No more lizards!!

Cabbage & Warm Water for Engorgement Relief!

Many mothers (especially new mothers) will want to breastfeed their cute little babies.

Breastfeeding
For some, breastfeeding comes naturally and for some, it's a learning experience. I am a new mother to my 20 days old baby and breastfeeding was tearful at the beginning. I was worried that I don't have enough milk to supply the ever increasing demand. Now, I have enough and sometimes more until you get engorgement of the breast.

What is engorgement?

Engorgement usually happens when the breasts switch from colostrum to mature milk. However, engorgement can also happen later if lactating mothers miss several nursing and not enough milk is expressed from the breasts. It can be exacerbated by insufficient breastfeeding and/or blocked milk ducts. When engorged the breasts may swell, throb, and cause mild to extreme pain. With this, you are not able to nurse your baby, either because the milk is not coming out or you are in too much pain!!

How to ease off engorgement?

You will demand for ANYTHING to relief the pain and I am sure if you are able to avoid taking any medication, it would be best. There are 2 ways you can try before attempting medication:-

1. Cabbage Leaves
Cabbage
Take the cabbage leaves (1 for each side) and place it over your engorged breast for about 1 hour (slightly longer or until leave wilted if you still feel engorge).

2. Warm Water

Use a soft handkerchief and soak it into warm water fully. Than, squeeze dry the handkerchief. Make sure the handkerchief is still warm. In small circular motion, go around your engorged breast focusing especially on those lumpy area.

Warm Water
This should sooth the lump and let the milk flow easier; be it for feeding or pumping.

Just remember, it's like street traffic in there. If you don't ease it enough, there will be traffic congestion that will gives us a massive headache if not being attended to.

Avoiding Skin getting dyed while dying hair

Ever wondered how to avoid getting the skin near your hair to get dyed while dying your hair? Sometimes you do it yourself and its almost impossible to avoid getting some dye on your skin. It is sometimes frustrating because everytime you see a drip on your skin you have to quickly clean it off before the dye gets into your skin and it will be a real bitch to get it off your skin.

So, how to avoid it? very simple.

The answer? Vaseline!

Yes vaseline! The petroleum jelly thinamajig where you use to help moisturise dry skin.

How it works?

Simple, just apply a thin layer along the borders between your hair and face or on your ear. The dye wont be able to seep through the jelly and after dying the hair you can just wash it off and viola! no stains on the skin!

Some may ask can baby lotion or some other lotion works. Yes it does but these lotion are slightly more fluid compared to this jelly so chances that they may seep into the skin and dry off is higher. But no harm using it!

So now go ahead and dye it away!!

How to get rid of oil stains on clothes or carpets

There are many products on the shelf that says, "Get stains off after wash!"

Well, that is when you do your laundry immediately before the oil substance absorb into the material. Moreover, you will have to buy that washing liquid to do so, which usually will cost you more than a normal detergent. However, I would recommend it if you ALWAYS get oil stains.

I have also heard that when you get stains, use baking soda to get rid of it. How the hell are you gonna get baking soda when you don't use it at home? But no doubt that it do work.

Here is a simpler and more cost effective way to get rid of occasional stains.

Yes, Baby Talcum powder (not necessarily the above brands). It's cheaper and can be use for other purposes.

Yes, it baby talcum powder has other usage besides getting babies comfortable and smell wonderful.

1. Pour a little on the oil stain. Remember to spread it evenly.
2. Wait for about 5 minutes for the oil to be absorbed.
3. Than take a damped cloth and rub it off.

Just make sure you don't put any water on the stain before putting the powder. Liquid will only help the oil to absorb faster.

If you're home, just leave the powder on the clothes until you do your laundry.

How to get unbroken eggs from packaging in supermarkets.

I know many of us buy eggs from supermarkets like in Giants, Carrefore, ColdStorage and even from our residential grocery stores. Most of the time, the eggs comes in not too transparent packaging, especially those Omega eggs.

What pisses me off was when I get home, I find some of eggs  broken. I just almost got 1 tray yesterday. No signs of broken eggs at 1 glance, but when I tilted it to the side, my hands got sticky with egg whites. =P

Remember, not all packaging allows you to open and check.

What I did was:-

1. Gently turn the packaging slowly 180 degree (upside down)
2. Look for fluids a.k.a egg whites. Sometimes, it doesn't appear on the packaging as the cracks are very fine.
3. Just in case, gently tilt it to the sides to look for leaks, which you will feel it eventually.

If you get nothing, than it is almost 100% the eggs are in good condition.

And please check for printed date, if there are any.
This will let you know how long the eggs have been on the shelf, which will allow you to judge how long will the eggs stay fresh.
